Simple Words

Today I was driving to lunch, listening to the radio when I heard something so ridiculous, I laughed...then I was just annoyed.

The simple word

{ PRAYER }

has been deemed "unconstitutional" to be said in schools...because the WORD

{ PRAYER }

might possibly lead to questions involving religion and/or God.

Are you kidding me?

Over 90% of Americans believe in God...why is it that less than 10% can have such a crappy impact on EVERYTHING??

Nobody cares if you believe in God, which God that may be, or if you don't believe in anything and think we ended up here on a whim...Nobody is asking anybody to actually PRAY, but some how we are now deeming a simple WORD UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!

What is wrong with this world!? What is wrong with this country?? If you don't believe something that someone else believes, does that make it wrong?? Does that make it offensive?? Does that make it UNCONSTITUTIONAL??

Freedom of religion is one of the reasons so many died in order for America to become free. Doesn't freedom of religion include the freedom to NOT believe whatever you want?? Just because God isn't something or someone you believe in, we all have to suffer without him?? What about the 90% of us that DO believe in God?? Maybe it's OFFENSIVE to me NOT to have the word PRAYER used in schools. If someone doesn't believe in God and there is a prayer said...can't that person just be respectful and have a moment of silence to think about whatever it is that they do believe in..??

What happened to this great country being the "Home of the Free" & "One Nation Under God"?? We are now spending our time and money to have words deemed UNCONSTITUTIONAL... Who has time to do this BS?? And why..?? This is becoming the Home of the Cry Babies that want their 15 minutes...

**proudly posted by Randi (who DOES believe in God and the use of the word PRAYER)**

The biggest issue with prayer in schools is the separation of church and state, not because it coule be offensive (which, it still could be).

Schools are state institutions and it would be considered unconstitutional to bring prayer and religious affiliations into schools. And while we may approve of it and find it offensive NOT to use prayer in school, we still must consider those who WOULD find it offensive to pray in school.

Again, the constitution says, "Freedom of religion" NOT freedom FROM religion.

I wasn't addressing the actual act of praying, I was addressing the use of the WORD prayer.

I understand the separation of church & state; that's not what my complaint is about.

Again, this is simply about the saying the word...the WORD...prayer.

Hm. It looks like when I read this I thought it was about prayer in schools. But upon re-reading it, that just seems silly.

Amen!! In a nation where we have come so far, how can it be we can be so stupid! Thanks for your opinion and your post. We all needed to hear, and voice our opinion about it!

There was an interview with one of Billy Graham's daughter after 911. They asked her how God could let this happen. She said something to the effect of "We have asked that God leave our schools, our government-basically our lives...is it any wonder he did."

To that I say, well said!
