Well last week Derek and grumpaw and Nana worked hard to make Derek his first "real" pinewood Derby Car. Derek designed the shape and paint job of the car. They all worked very hard.
Tonight was the big race with about 20 boys from 2 packs. Derek was prepared, by everyone, to have good sportsmanship because he probably wouldn't win.
As we watched each heat we realized that Derek's car was racing about 145 mph. This was quite a bit faster than lots of other cars, but not as fast as a few others.
We were excited when they announced that Derek was in the top three finalists and could race in the final heat. When it was all said and done he won third place and got his first trophy ever!
