the Big D turns the Big 9

Although Derek doesn't officially turn nine until February 10th, we celebrated his big day today. We had a great time roller skating at the Rollerplex all afternoon and then gathered for pizza, wings & one of Nana Carlys' custom cakes at Richelle & Anthony's house.

I haven't skated in memory, and was excited about today!! Some of the younger participants rollerbladed, but those of us that remember Great Skate (& Sydney) opt'd for regular old roller skates.

Derek's birthday cake was so cool!! Carlys made an empty pool for a skater to play in on his board...it looked cool and was yummy- white cake with strawberry filling!! Yum!! (this picture doesn't do this cake justice. The pool is has actualy depth...very cool.)

Derek got some cool gifts too!! He got some cash, some gift cards, and his favorite gift- his favorite team's jersey & hat...like father like son.
